Michalis P. Michael

Chairman, Invest Cyprus 

Michalis P. Michael is the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Cyprus Investment Promotion Agency since January 2018. He has a long professional career in business and audit services, both as a sole practitioner and as a Partner in KPMG Cyprus. Mr. Michael has a vast experience in the Ukrainian market and he is the Chairman of the Cyprus-Ukraine Business Association from 2012 until today. Michalis has been actively involved with public life since his early career. Formerly, he served as a Member of the Board of Directors of the Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation (1996-2000), Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Cyprus Organisation of Land Development (2000-2003), Member of the Committee for the Supervision and Development of Cooperative Societies (2003-2013). He was also Member of the Board of Directors of The Cyprus University of Technology (2014-2016), where he currently holds the position of Vice-President (July 2016-today). Michalis is a Chartered Certified Accountant, a Fellow member of the UK Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA) and Member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Cyprus, of which he served also as a Member of the Board of Directors.

George Campanellas is a graduate of the Department of International and European Studies of the Athens University of Economics and Business with post-graduate studies in Public Sector Management (Master’s in Public Sector Management) and Business Administration (MBA in Oil & Gas and Energy Management). During the past 16 years he has held various positions within the public service. Since 2013, he was employed at the Ministry of Energy, Commerce, Industry and Tourism where he was actively involved in drafting the regulatory framework and incentives for attracting Foreign Direct Investment in sectors of strategic importance to the economy. He has been actively involved in the development of the integrated casino resort, being also member of its Project Management Team. Since 2015, he has participated as a speaker in a number of business missions abroad, presenting investment opportunities in different sectors of the Cyprus economy, while also serving as a member of the Board of Directors of Invest Cyprus.

Former Minister of Health, Cyprus

Dr. George Pamboridis is the Former Minister of Health of Cyprus. He studied Law in Athens and continued his studies at the University of Southampton where he acquired a Master’s degree (LL.M.) in Shipping Law. He subsequently acquired a Master’s degree (M.Sc.) from the Department of International Relations of the London School of Economics (LSE) and a Doctorate (Ph.D.) in Law from the University of Southampton in Public International and Shipping Law. He is the author of “International Shipping Law: Legislation and Enforcement”, published by Kluwer Law International and the book “Hydrocarbons of the Republic of Cyprus”, published in September 2012, as well as numerous legal articles. Dr. Pamboridis is qualified in Cyprus (Member of the Cyprus Bar Association), Greece (Member of the Athens Bar Association) and England & Wales (Roll of Solicitors). After working at the law office of Tassos Papadopoulos & Co, he worked at the City law firm Holman, Fenwick & Willan in the UK before joining L Papaphilippou & Co law office in Nicosia as a Partner for five years. Since 2003, he started up Pamboridis LLC with offices in Nicosia and Athens. In 2015, Pamboridis was appointed as Minister of Health by President Anastasiades. He held his ministerial position for two and a half years before returning to law. Dr. Pamboridis is a corporate and commercial law lawyer, dealing mostly with matters related to mergers and acquisitions (M&A), corporate law and international tax planning, as well as Energy law. His extensive shipping background ranks him as one of the leading lawyers in matters of International Shipping Regulation. He also teaches International Shipping Law and Energy Law at the University of Cyprus.

Micheal Antoniades joined KPMG in the UK in 1990 and became a Partner of KPMG in Cyprus in 1998. He has extensive experience in both internal and external auditing and other attestation exercises in a wide range of industries, with specialisation in Financial Services (mainly insurance), Oil and Gas, Information Technology and retail, as well as the public sector. He has been in charge of the Management Assurance Services and of the Quality Control at KPMG (Quality Performance Liaison Partner). Today he holds the position of the Risk Management Partner as well as the position of the Insurance Industry and Oil and Gas Industry Lines Leader. Between 2001-2003 he has been the Chairman of the Accounting and Auditing Standards Committee of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Cyprus. Further to that he served as a Council member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Cyprus for 10 years.

Marios Menelaou is an Associate at L Papaphilippou & Co LLC. He is a barrister specialising in commercial litigation. His experience includes litigation and advice on banking, corporate, regulatory, EU law and human rights law. He was admitted to the Cyprus Bar Association in 2012. He received a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Essex, Master of Laws from the University College of London and a Bar Vocational Course from the College of Law London. He was called to the Bar of England and Wales in 2008. He also received legal training from BPP Law School London and he is a member of the Honourable Society of Gray’s Inn.

Theo Parperis was the Partner in Charge of Compliance Services Competence and Private Wealth Services (PwS) of the firm until 30 June 2015. As of 1st July 2015, Theo has taken over as Head of Tax & Legal Services of PwC in Cyprus. He is primarily engaged with international clients operating in a broad range of sectors, including trade in oil and commodities (e.g. metals), transportation, shipping, tourism, manufacturing, information and technology. His clientele comprises primarily of international businesses with activities in Russia, Ukraine, Asia, M.E. and Central Eastern Europe as well as a number of HNWIs (High Net Worth Individuals). Theo graduated from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and is a Fellow member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW). Theo has also served as president of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Cyprus (ICPAC) from June 2011 to June 2013.

Costas Argyrides is CEO of the Cyprus Development Bank Public Company Ltd which he joined in 2017. He was previously at Bank of Cyprus, where he held the position of Director, Wealth & Markets. Prior to that, he was the General Manager of the Cyprus Popular Bank UK. He holds a master’s degree in Shipping Trade & Finance from Cass Business School and studied Economics at Queen Mary College, University of London. He is a member of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investments (Chartered MCSI) and a member of the Board of the Cyprus Investment Funds Association (CIFA).

Melina Pyrgou is the Managing Director of Pyrgou Vakis Law Firm. She is also currently appointed as a Board Member of the “Health Insurance Organisation” as the representative of the Cyprus Government, Member of “The Cyprus Legal Council” chaired by the Attorney General of the Republic of Cyprus, Board member of the Cyprus Investment Promotion Agency, Member of the Disciplinary Committee of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Cyprus, Appointed Member of the Board of BPW Nicosia. Melina was also listed in “Legal 500” EMEA 2016+2017 as “Recommended Lawyer” in the areas of Commercial, Corporate and M&A and served as President of EuropeFides Association for 2016. She acted as country expert for projects of the European Commission in the field of the environment and others. She also Participated in panel discussions, conferences and invited to take part of ministerial committee for the reform of the Registrar of Companies. Board Member, KPMG Cyprus

Costas Markides is a member of the Board of KPMG Limited. He is a Southern Illinois University graduate holding a Master’s degree in Accountancy with special concentration on International Taxation. He has been the recipient of two full academic scholarships and graduated first in his class at the College of Business Administration with a perfect score. In 2016, he was nominated for induction into the College of Business Hall of Fame, one of the highest honours bestowed to alumni. He is a Certified Public Accountant and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). Before joining KPMG, he worked as Director of Research at the Center of Financial and Tax Planning in the US. He returned to Cyprus in 1999 and was employed in one of the Big 4 firms and since 2002 he has worked for KPMG and was accepted as a Member of the Board in 2011. He is a specialist in the field of International Taxation, a regular speaker at seminars in Cyprus and abroad and the author of numerous tax-related articles in professional publications in Cyprus and the US. He has been active in advising clients on efficiently structuring their international tax affairs in and through Cyprus. He also heads the Global Mobility and Transfer Pricing Services divisions of KPMG.

Director General, Cyprus Employers & Industrialists Federation (OEB)

Michael Antoniou is the Director General of the Cyprus Employers & Industrialists Federation (OEB). He holds a degree in Law from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece and a Masters of Law (LLM) from the University of Cardiff, UK. He joined the Cyprus Employers & Industrialists Federation (OEB) in 1991 as an Industrial Relations and Social Policy Officer, and was promoted to Director of the relevant Department in 2000. In 2007 he became Assistant Director General and, in February 2016, was promoted to Director General. He is the author of numerous publications including a four-volume Compendium of Cypriot Labour Legislation, a treatise on the Termination of Employment Law, a Code of Practice to combat sexual harassment at work and a book on labour law and the EU acquis communautaire. He represents the OEB on various Boards and Committees in Cyprus and the EU and has been a Substitute Member of the Governing Body of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) since 2017.

Costas Iacovou is the Ag. Permanent Secretary of the Shipping Deputy Ministry to the President since April 2018. He is an economist specialized on project evaluation and investment appraisal with extensive experience on European Union policies in the sectors of research and innovation and regional development policies. During his career, he served numerous posts in the public service in sectors mostly relating to growth policies and the competitiveness of the Cyprus economy. Member of the negotiations team for the accession of Cyprus to the EU, member of consultative committees of the EU and representative of Cyprus in EU bodies, international fora and organisations. During the last five years he was heading the Managing Authority of Cyprus for the utilization of the EU structural and investment funds.

Costas Galatariotis is Executive Chairman of the Galatariotis Group of Companies, Executive Chairman of C.C.C. Tourist Enterprises Public Company Ltd and member of Boards of Directors of several private and public companies. He is a member of the board of directors of the Association of Cyprus Tourist Enterprises (ACTE). Costas is Chairman of the Audit Committee of Vassiliko Cement Works Public Company Limited since 2008. He has served as Honorary Consul General of Japan in Cyprus from 2007 until 2012. Since September 2014 he is the President of the Board of the Limassol Chamber of Commerce and Industry. He was born in Limassol in 1963. He graduated the 5th Gymnasium of Limassol and he studied Economics, Industry and Commerce at the London School of Economics and Political Science.

Polys Hajioannou is the Chief Executive Officer of Safe Bulkers, Inc. and has been Chairman of the board of directors since 2008. Mr. Hajioannou also serves with Safe Bulkers Management Ltd. in Cyprus as well as its predecessor Alassia Steamship Co., Ltd., which he joined in 1987. Mr. Hajioannou is a founding member and Vice-President of the Cyprus Union of Shipowners. Mr. Hajioannou is a member of the Lloyd’s Register Hellenic Advisory Committee. In 2011, Mr. Hajioannou was appointed to the board of directors of the Hellenic Mutual War Risks Association (Bermuda) Limited and in 2013 he was elected at the board of directors of the UK Mutual Steam Ship Assurance Association (Bermuda) Limited where he served until 2016. That same year, he was appointed as a member to the newly established UK Club Bermuda Members’ Committee. Mr. Hajioannou holds a Bachelor of Science degree in nautical studies from Sunderland University.

He has vast expertise and experience in leading staff, Operations, Corporate Real Estate & Procurement with capability to lead and motivate multi-cultural teams of high caliber individuals. In addition to his tenure at amdocs Cyprus, he spent 3 years in USA leading the amdocs Inc. global services for 35 branches and 6,200 employees.

Kyriacos Charalambides

Kyriacos Charalambides was appointed as Executive Director – Head of Portfolio Management of Hanseatic Capital Management Limited in 2018 and is based in Cyprus. He joined Bernhard Schulte (Cyprus) Limited in 2016 and served as Project Manager for a number of investment projects prior to his current role. Kyriacos previously worked for Deloitte in the field of assurance and financial advisory across various industries including banking, infrastructure, energy, shipping and real estate.
